I've been actively healing from severe PTSD for about 13 years now. This class taught me a lot about myself, how I may come across when I have an issue in public, and how I can help others who are possibly experiencing the same thing. It also gave me practical tools to engage someone struggling with a mental crisis. The workshop itself provided an excellent place to practice the new skills, with other people who were learning alongside me.

I appreciated the experience and knowledge the instructor brought to the course with a variety of life experiences that contributed to the curriculum of the class. The course provided valuable information that everyone could benefit from in dealing with situations that we encounter throughout our every day lives.

As an electrical contractor, we encounter many first time customers and interactions. It has been immensely helpful for us to have the tools and knowledge of MHFA, just as much as First Aid has been in the past. It has allowed our technicians to operate safety and make judgement calls based upon warning signs they may have never noticed before. Not only does it make our technicians safer, but it also allows for us to offer qualified assistance to those that may not have human interaction otherwise. We strongly believe that MHFA is helpful to anyone that would take it; especially for those situations where the correct phrasing or diffusion of a tense situation could mean a life saved.

If the people around me had taken this course two years ago, I would have had a less traumatic experience myself during a flashback. With the prevalence of PTSD and other conditions that affect everyday people, learning when and how to respond is important. In some cases, knowing this information and knowing when to apply it may save someone's life.
